With Easter approaching, ABICOR BINZEL thought: what can be a good deed? It should be something in the region. It should arrive where donations are greatly appreciated. Namely among the people who are dependent on support due to the high cost of living. The people who come to the food bank Tafel Gießen.

This is how the idea came about to fill backpacks from the company's inventory with a few sweet, creative and playful Easter surprises. Children from families for which such things are unaffordable surely will enjoy the backpack and its contents. The handover to the institution was on April 4th.

Anna Conrad, head of the Tafel Gießen and responsible for organisation and coordination, happily accepted 70 filled backpacks at the Reiskirchen branch: "This is a great initiative for Easter. Children are very important to me. Many thanks to the company ABICOR BINZEL on behalf of the food bank Tafel".

The donation was handed over by Director Finance & Administration Arndt Rosendahl and Director Marketing International Jan Hasselbaum. Arndt Rosendahl: "Thank you for the good exchange of information. I was quite surprised that the food bank Tafel Gießen is so much more than a distribution center for donated food. They carry out many initiatives, especially for children, such as schoolbags for the start of school, swimming courses or football camps. One of the projects I particularly liked was their Christmas campaign, where children in need get a heart's desire fulfilled. We will be very happy to participate this year."

Jan Hasselbaum adds: "I am very pleased that a spontaneous idea has actually turned into a small initiative at Easter to spread joy. Our trainees were immediately excited to pack the backpacks and we hope that some families will now colour Easter eggs together and that the backpack will be used in everyday life."

The opening of the food bank center "Tafelladen" in Gießen was on December 6th, 2005. At that time, around 60 households with 175 people and 50 of them children were initially supplied on two distribution days. Tafel Gießen now supports 3,800 people, including 1,400 children under the age of 14 in a total of 1,000 households. Another 600 households are currently on the waiting list. Demand has doubled during the corona pandemic. As of December 2022, 2 million people across Germany are dependent on the food distribution of the food bank Tafel.

The performance of all Tafel food banks would not be possible without the many volunteer helpers. They regularly drive to grocery stores, sort the goods and put them in boxes according to household sizes. Costs for rent, vehicles and their maintenance are borne by donations and user contributions.

ABICOR BINZEL will definitely make children's eyes light up with the Easter-filled backpacks. Certainly, other companies have other good ideas on how they can support the Tafel Gießen. Because every donation, no matter how small, can make a big difference.
