75 years of welding technology from Central Hesse

At the beginning of the year we had a lot of plans for our 75th anniversary, but unfortunately most of the events had to be canceled due to the Corona restrictions.

The development of our company has taken a remarkable course since it was founded in the post-war period. Today have over 1,200 employees in 38 countries worldwide. It is them who have turned a wholesale business of welding equipment into a world market leader for inert gas welding and cutting torches in these 75 years.Company founder Alexander Binzel started his business in 1945 under the most adverse circumstances in the ruins of the old publishing house Emil Roth in Gießen. As if by a miracle, the so-called »garden house« was spared during the air attack on Gießen in December 1944 and was used as the company headquarters for the foundation. At that time, the procurement of materials for welding technology was sometimes very adventurous, but a solution was always found and the company grew every year.

Since the start of the business many significant developments and new standards have been initiated. The first high-performance MIG/MAG shielding gas welding torch laid the stone for many other, for the most part patented, developments in 1963. The breakthrough to become the leading supplier of MIG/MAG welding torches was achieved by the central adaptor and central connector system developed by BINZEL almost 50 years ago, known as central plug system, which quickly became the standard across Europe and still guarantees that every welding torch with a central plug fits every welding machine regardless of the manufacturer.

This was followed by TIG shielding gas welding torches, the ABICOR BINZEL coaxial cable assembly BIKOX, robot welding torches and robot peripherals, WH neck changing system torches for robot welding, the MFS wire feed system and brackets with cut-off safety devices for CAT/iCAT/iSTM robot welding torches. In addition, the lightweight welding torch line ABIMIG® AT LW with neck change system and the high-performance torch line MB EVO PRO as well as the fume extraction torches RAB GRIP HE 2. Recently, the xFUME welding fume extraction systems round off the portfolio in extraction technology, to name just a few of the ABICOR BINZEL product developments. In the meantime, we have developed into a system provider for joining technology in the fields of automation, fume extraction technology, welding with cobots and laser joining.
