The new command center for clean air: xFUME® COMMANDER

During welding fumes and fine dust are produced that can have a lasting impact not only on the health of welders but also on everyone working in the same production area. It is therefore even more important to extract these particles directly where they are generated – at the arc. This is achieved with an xFUME® extraction torch, while the xFUME® COMMANDER efficiently and reliably filters the captured fumes – whether at manual welding workstations, in use with cobots, or on fully automated welding systems.

Compact design meets intuitive operation

During the development of the xFUME® COMMANDER, special focus was placed on a compact design, because space is limited in most production facilities. The mobile extraction system comes with a dust drawer and practical transport rollers, making it easy to move and set up wherever needed in production. With a footprint of only 52 cm x 46 cm, the xFUME® COMMANDER fits easily even in tight workshops.

Inside, a brushless motor ensures long service life and consistent extraction performance. Two motor versions are available: 1.1 kW (single-phase) for manual workstations and 2.5 kW (three-phase) for robotic applications. This allows up to two workstations to operate simultaneously – with consistently high performance.

When it comes to operation, the xFUME® COMMANDER impresses with its user-friendly design: an LCD display with rotary knob allows easy adjustment and monitoring of key parameters such as filter status, volume flow, and actual/target performance – even when wearing gloves. Integrated silencers significantly reduce operating noise, creating a pleasant working environment in the production area.

Another advantage: maintenance is quick and simple. The housing can be opened using the so-called quick-release, and the filters can be replaced without tools in just a few minutes. This keeps the unit always ready for use and minimizes downtime.

Cleanest air – optionally with HEPA filter

The filter system of the xFUME® COMMANDER is highly efficient and meets the requirements of the of the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (IFA) – a key consideration, especially when welding high-alloy steels. It was tested in ABICOR BINZEL’s in-house ARCLab on an emission test rig developed in cooperation with the Technical University of Dresden. Thanks to the integrated W3 filter, the cleaned air can be safely returned directly to the working area. This is a particular advantage in closed workshops equipped with a central extraction system.

For applications with especially high demands on air purity, the xFUME® COMMANDER can also be equipped with an additional HEPA filter (High Efficiency Particulate Air). This high-performance particulate filter removes even the finest particles between 0.1 and 0.3 micrometers – those capable of penetrating deep into the lungs – with a separation efficiency of at least 99.95 %. This raises the air purification to a level that even exceeds the values required by W3 certification. The xFUME® COMMANDER is therefore a future-proof solution for companies that place the highest importance on quality, occupational safety, and sustainability.

Compatible with all xFUME® extraction torches

Another advantage: the system can be combined with all extraction torches of the xFUME® series from ABICOR BINZEL – for example, the xFUME® COMPACT, xFUME® PRO, or xFUME® ABIROB®. Those who wish to extract fumes from two workstations simultaneously can even connect two torches in parallel via a Y-piece, perfectly adapting the extraction capacity to individual requirements.
